[ he does at least remember ootori is here despite having a pretty awesome memory fog going on about this place. but, hijikata remembers ootori's here and ootori's by far the closest and most familiar to him now and he's really kind of done with the awkward vagueness right now of the gumis, so :(
also, he feels bad for not remembering you, because he does know he didn't remember you even though that kind of makes no sense to him but whatever what is sense.
where the fuck are you ootori-san he needs a goddamn adult. ]
[ that means more than he could ever express right now for far too many reasons and for the first time this week, despite everything falling apart faster than he can breathe, he feels this relief that draws a very brief but real smile. not that he's around for anyone to take notice (he doesn't even really realize himself) but that willing acceptance is what he needs more than anything right now and there's no one else that possibly could with the way time is ticking and foreshadowing what is soon to come to pass (and everything else that will, too, that it does not) other than ootori. ]
Got it.
[ hijikata closes the cover to the watch, bringing a hand to his mouth for a moment in brief thought before letting it go.
pretty damn well near inseparable and, yet, how does all that just appear, again?
—well, actually, it apparently just doesn't, after all. ]
[He's not entirely sure how Hijikata lost that, and then just - got it all back again, but Ootori isn't going to question it too deeply; there's enough to figure out about this place, after all, and the fact that Hijikata did remember is the important thing here.
So instead of worrying about it, he'll take the few minutes until Hijikata gets down there to get a couple glasses of water poured. He tried to find some tea in the kitchens, but there was nothing but cans of corn...alas.]
[ and he thought the tea sucked he'll never complain (as much) again after this.
well, it would be nice if this reunion could be something pleasant but despite his general feelings on ootori the rest of this situation is even more bleak than usual. and Hijikata does look tired amongst other things when he finally gets to the common room (funnily enough despite an apparently good long sleep that did no good other than to remember this person. ]
You sure did arrive at a complicated point in time here. [ public torture and executions involving his dead and or missing importants in his life because just being here isn't bad enough. ]
CONTACT: toshizou.hijikata@compass.net MESSAGE:i need you
[ let's start this off with a bang, and by bang i mean more like that's as much as he can really stand to write at the moment to get his point across since audio is sort of out of the question, goddamn. ]
[As blunt as Hijikata tends to be, that isn't the kind of blunt Ootori's used to hearing, and so it's quite enough to get him to drop what he's doing.]
[ and now that his watch is covered in a nice red coat of sticky blood, he drops it uselessly because shit he does not want to drag ootori into things like this, but if he needs to ask anyone for the help, then. . .
why does he have to ask for the help at all, though, goddamn.
hijikata closes his eyes, pressing his hand to his mouth a little harder as drops of blood seep past his fingers. he's been coughing up blood for days and he isn't a stranger to any of these symptoms, but the last thing he can do is dwell on it, especially right now. however, this has gotten to be a little bit much, too quickly, and he isn't even sure if he's simply coughing blood up now or vomiting it considering the considerable amount increase of it. the thing is, he doesn't know what happened to bring on this intense change ( but he remembers it, he thinks, back from when he was a child. he remembers his sister, he remembers watching her shake and panic and sob as her wheezed coughs became accompanied with heaving more blood as each second became harder to breathe. he remembers them talking later, how it was unusual for it to progress that way, but perhaps it was some type of internal rupture that bled out while she on the outside seemed uninjured. ).
hijikata remembers as a child the first time after her death when he felt ill with an awful cough how scared he became, fearing he would have the same condition as his sister and thus share the same fate. what he can't remember is whether or not it was the same, but he does remember a whirlwind of pain and terror as a child, afraid of death that no one seemed to be confident they could save him from that night.
he'll never admit it, but as he starts to cough again, trying to inhale enough air through short wheezes in between and after, the only thing he can think of is how badly he wants his sister right now. ]
[Sadly, if he can't have his sister, he's just going to have to make do with Ootori.
He wastes no time in making his way there - it's thankfully close to where he was - and as soon as he spots Hijikata at the end of the hall, he's there, closing the distance and giving him a once-over (as well as taking a glance at the red-stained watch on the ground).
While the first question most people would ask might be what's wrong with you, Ootori's already quite sure he might be able to come up with a better answer for that than Hijikata. (Funny how he hardly touched that medical training back in Japan, and now that he's here it seems to be the best thing he has to offer anyone.)
Figuring out what's causing it can come after dealing with it, anyway.]
Was there anyone in the kitchen?
[Because the first order of business, clearly, is to get Hijikata sitting down and cleaned up so he can take a better look at him, and doing it somewhere with running water and towels on hand would certainly make life easier. Hopefully nobody's in there to damage Hijikata's fragile manly ego at being seen coughing up blood.]
[ oh, please. like he has a manly ego left to break right now after having to call someone for help.
it takes hijikata a second or two to reply both to ootori's presence and his question but— ]
Sure as hell hope not or they're some of the biggest assholes I've yet to meet.
[ because who doesn't even come and peek curiously out in the hallway when someone's coughing like it's going out of style? seriously, not to mention people ask too many questions ( thank god ootori knows a hell of a lot more than he does because if someone asked him what was wrong anything other than what the fuck does it look like is wrong probably wouldn't be an answer they'd get ) ]
[They probably wouldn't want to eat after the blood-coughing man comes and starts taking up kitchen space anyway. Ootori gently, but firmly, takes Hijikata by the elbow and steers him towards the door.]
it'd be extra idiotic of him to make a fuss after calling for ootori so he'd rather compliant in letting the other do the direction making. hijikata's too busy trying not to get sick to his stomach from the idea of coughing blood everywhere and smelling it, too, anyway.
but, a chair isn't quite so bad, either, and it helps with any vertigo he's been feeling in the process, as well. this is such bullshit, though. he's so aggravated now that his childish fears are set back somewhere in his mind not so influential with ootori being here, and he really doesn't want to be the world's worst patient, but he's already feeling a need to bitch about this.
maybe it's a good thing that's easier to think about doing than actually doing it right this moment. ]

I had the impression there's no such thing as a good time to arrive, really, but it does seem like now is a bit worse than it could be.

he said it looked like a fat person
but hijikatasan said he could and that he could even read the haiku i wrote for him

I do mean it! It would be more obvious with ears or whiskers, of course, but there's the right curve to the mouth...!
